Role / Department
The successful candidate will be pivotal in managing and delivering the reporting needs of a global private equity client through the development of the Accounting Team and relationships with the client, auditors and other third parties. The role includes reviewing, assisting and preparing a variety of deliverables such as audited financial statements, management accounts, information for tax reporting, and ad-hoc reporting for entities administered by the Private Equity department, in a timely, efficient and accurate manner to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Leading by example: demonstrate professional judgement and attitude to foster an environment of employee participation, teamwork and communication, enabling first-class service.
* Communication: promote effective communication through 1:2:1 and team meetings; maintain strong relationships with the client, auditors, administration team and other Northern Trust departments.
* Accounting Team development: develop partners’ technical knowledge and skills via appraisal processes, interim reviews, coaching and evaluation; provide on-the-job training and ensure procedures are up to date and adhered to daily.
* Organisation of the Accounting Team: establish concise timetables for deliverables in discussion with the client and external parties; ensure adherence and proactive communication; identify and discuss system and process enhancements; coordinate introductions of approved enhancements; prioritise assignments and provide continuous feedback to staff.
* Technical knowledge: advise on accounting issues and best practices; be a point of contact for technical accounting matters for the Private Equity accounting team.
* Pro forma Accounts: design pro forma accounts in accordance with regulations/standards and agreed with clients/auditors.
* Account preparation process: oversee preparation of financial reporting up to presentation to the Board (where required); review client accounting functions prepared by fund accountants and senior fund accounts.
* Statutory reporting: ensure FRR and LRR calculations for Guernsey licensee entities are completed and statutory accounts are filed on time; prepare financial reporting as needed.
* Outsourced jurisdictions: oversee a team of accountants in Guernsey and review financial reporting for funds where statements are outsourced to other Northern Trust offices.
* Client reporting: develop client-specific knowledge to support ad-hoc queries.
* Other deliverables: complete accurate complex fund valuations, distributions, calls/drawdowns, management fee calculations and related items.
* Internal reporting: complete NT internal reporting as required.
Skills / Qualifications
* Accounting qualification (ACA or ACCA preferred); familiarity with UK GAAP or IFRS.
* Understanding of Guernsey Company / POI / Partnership laws and ability to stay updated with developments.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills; confidence in communicating with clients and senior stakeholders.
* Proven people management credentials; strong leadership and change management attributes.
* Good analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to set priorities and manage deadlines.
* Advanced Excel skills; knowledge of Investran would be an advantage.
* Capable team player, self-starter, flexible, with ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
