Operations manager

Offer description

Greenvolt Next is committed to the Distributed Energy Generation, as this is one of the main axes of energy transition and key to reduce the costs of energy bills. We have partnerships across Europe relying on local knowledge and market expertise.

We are looking for an Operations Manager to lead the operations side of delivering large-scale solar projects—from early conception, through pre-construction, construction, commissioning to handover (PAC / FAC). You’ll manage all project managers, ensure that designs are turned into reality on site, and that project reporting and execution meet contract requirements. You will oversee planning, risk, cost, schedule, quality, safety, and delivery, ensuring each project is set up to succeed and handed over properly.

Key Responsibilities

* Oversee the full lifecycle of utility scale and commercial & industrial (C&I) solar projects
* Conception / Feasibility
* Pre-construction (planning applications, design, procurement, stakeholder engagement)
* Construction (site works, contractors / subcontractors, civil, electrical works, installation)
* Commissioning and handover (PAC / FAC etc.)
* Line-manage all Project Managers: define roles, set targets, monitor performance, ensure deliverables are met.
* Coordinate with the Contracts Manager: ensure contract terms are understood, risks allocated appropriately, changes managed.
* Ensure that designs are delivered on site as per specifications, and deviations are managed.
* Ensure reporting is carried out per contracts (progress, costs, technical, safety, quality) and that should cover internal and external stakeholders.
* Develop realistic project plans, schedules, budget forecasts; ensure resources are in place.
* Risk management: identify risks early, implement mitigation, ensure compliance (health & safety, regulatory, environmental).
* Quality assurance / quality control: ensure workmanship, materials, testing are as required.
* Drive continuous improvement: find efficiencies, standardise best practice across projects.
* Ensure successful commissioning and handover (both PAC / FAC), including snagging, commissioning tests, documentation, performance guarantees, handover packs etc.

Required Experience

Essential:

* Experience delivering utility-scale solar projects in the UK (or similar market) from conception through to commissioning & handover.
* Strong project management skills: proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary teams (design, construction, commissioning etc.).
* Very well organised: able to manage multiple projects in different phases, keep detail without losing the big picture.
* Deep understanding of contract management, reporting obligations, risk & quality management.
* Technical knowledge sufficient to understand solar PV systems, grid connections (e.g. G99 etc.), civil & electrical works.
* Strong stakeholder management: internal teams, contractors, suppliers, regulators.
* Good communication skills (written & verbal) and ability to drive alignment across teams.
* Often travel to sites will be required; flexibility and ability to manage field vs office demands.

Desirable:

* Familiarity with C&I solar projects in addition to large utility scale.
* Prior experience with PAC/FAC and all required commissioning tests / documentation.
* Experience with design review / constructability, e.g. working with engineers / designers early.
* Some experience or understanding of environmental / planning / permitting processes in the UK
* Excellent organisational and communication skills with a practical approach to problem solving.

Technical Qualifications

* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as:
* Electrical Engineering
* Mechanical Engineering
* Civil Engineering
* Renewable Energy Engineering
* Construction Management

Highly Desirable:

* Project Management Certification such as:
* APM (Association for Project Management) Practitioner or Registered Project Professional
* PRINCE2 Practitioner
* PMP (Project Management Professional)
* CDM Knowledge
