The Tara Group is a family-owned independent company, consisting of four companies involved in the construction of housing. It was originally founded in 1974 by Noel Sweeney and remains in the ownership of the Sweeney Family. With offices in Chasetown, we employ over 250 across our group and work with over 400 sub-contractors.
This role is responsible for assisting the Senior Engineer in setting out duties, providing technical support to site teams, and helping ensure that all works are delivered to the highest standards. The Graduate Site Engineer will provide technical support to site teams, helping interpret engineering drawings, resolve on-site issues, and ensure that construction activities align with project plans and quality standards.
The role involves maintaining accurate site records, contributing to health and safety compliance, and collaborating with various stakeholders including clients, suppliers, and project managers. The Graduate Site Engineer plays a vital part in ensuring that all works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest professional standards, while gaining valuable hands-on experience and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical and Site Support:
* Assist with setting out duties under supervision.
* Provide technical guidance to site teams where appropriate.
* Ensure project drawings and CAD information are accurate and current.
* Learn and apply engineering principles to solve technical challenges.
Quality Assurance:
* Support the compilation of as-built drawings.
* Learn and implement the company’s QA management system.
* Assist with QA documentation and compliance checks.
Survey and Equipment Management:
* Assist with dilapidation, topographical, and outfall surveys before site commencement.
* Maintain and safeguard survey and GPS equipment.
* Ensure calibration certificates are up to date and submitted to the Technical Manager.
Communication and Development:
* Attend weekly site progress meetings.
* Liaise effectively with colleagues and site teams.
* Learn and develop CAD and RFI processes.

* BEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
* Must be based in Derby or surrounding area.
* Strong interest in site-based engineering and infrastructure projects.
* Willingness to learn and develop technical and professional skills.
