* Job Title: Whole‑Time Specialty Doctor in Paediatric Surgery
* Grade: Registrar Level
* Department: Paediatric Surgery and Urology
* Work Pattern: 1 in 9 rota, non‑resident
* Accountable To: Clinical lead
Responsibilities
* Work with consultants in the day‑to‑day management of inpatients and outpatients; assist, advise, and supervise junior doctors; perform administrative duties (discharge summaries, clinic letters, arrange admissions and surgical procedures).
* Participate in clinical audit and ensure a high standard of patient care.
* Supervise junior doctors’ ward work, including discharge letters.
* Conduct routine hand‑over ward rounds at 7:45 am every morning; conduct working ward rounds thereafter and hand over to the on‑call team every evening.
* Organise and attend theatre lists in discussion with the consultant.
* Attend outpatient clinics and dictate clinic letters.
* Be responsible for patient transfers to and from other hospitals, providing appropriate and relevant advice to assist the transfer.
* Take calls from GPs or other hospitals wishing to refer patients.
* Take initiative to improve continuity and maintain patient care.
* Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
* Access to research opportunities; successful candidates will be encouraged to participate in departmental research.
Daily Commitment
Clinical duties include daytime on‑call, theatre, and clinic sessions. On‑call schedule: one night per week (Monday–Thursday, 5 of 9 weeks), Friday night (1 of 9), weekend (1 of 8).
