Are you a skilled and passionate Scrub Practitioner ready to take the next step in your career?

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Scrub Team leader to join our dedicated Breast Surgical Teams at Chorley and District Hospital.

As a scrub team leader, you will play a pivotal role in leading a specialist team within our breast theatres, ensuring the highest standards of perioperative care. You will be responsible for coordinating theatre activity, supporting junior staff and working closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver, safe efficient and compassionate care to patients undergoing breast surgery.

You must be a registered General Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with significant scrub experience in breast surgery, ready to lead and inspire a motivated, enthusiastic team

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Assist and support the Clinical Manager in the safe and effective management of the service including management of staff, facilities and associated systems and processes.

Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care

Acts as a role model presenting a positive image of self, the team and the organisation.

Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, making optimal use of operating sessions. Identify potential bottlenecks and facilitate smooth patient flow through the department.

Ensure a high standard of service delivery is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence-based guidelines.

Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.

Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.

Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care

Promote provision of patient education and health promotion

Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting, and meeting the needs and choices of individuals

Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped, and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.

Participate in education and training of junior staff encouraging professional growth and development.

Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional
practice

Demonstrates and maintains competence in anaesthetic practice (ODP’s)

Person specification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

1. •Awareness of changes in practice and the ability to implement change.
2. •Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
3. •Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
4. •Knowledge of escalation and cancellation processes

Desirable criteria

5. •Knowledge of Leadership and Management

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

6. •Registered nurse / ODP with current NMC/ HCPC registration
7. •Evidence of current and continuing professional development
8. •Extensive Scrub experience in breast surgery
9. •Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards following 12 months commencement in post.

Desirable criteria

10. •Experience in General surgery
11. •Degree in related health care area
12. •Level 3 ILM (Institute of leadership and Management) or equivalent.
13. •Core people management skill
