Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Quality Lead based at ABT in Peterlee. The Quality Lead is a leadership role responsible for delivering ABT’s long-term quality vision, ensuring scalability and adaptability as we grow. Reporting directly to the Supply Chain Director, this role is crucial for driving continuous improvement, team development, and compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
Duties
* Lead, mentor, and develop the quality team to align with company objectives and strategic quality goals.
* Implement quality strategies across New Product Introduction (NPI) and production, ensuring compliance with Statistical Process Control (SPC), Gauge R&R, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), control plans, and supplier quality management.
* Drive data-driven decision-making by capturing, analysing, and leveraging quality metrics for continuous improvement.
* Ensure full compliance with industry regulations and certifications, including CE, UN38.3, UL, and others as required.
* Oversee problem-solving initiatives using Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), 8D methodologies, and escalation processes.
* Conduct internal quality reviews with engineering, operations, and procurement teams to ensure alignment on quality objectives and improvement initiatives.
* Represent ABT’s quality function in customer interactions, including quality reports and performance reviews, reinforcing the company’s commitment to high standards.
* Identify and interpret quality data trends, working with data analysts to develop insights and drive process enhancements.
* Optimise the use of ERP systems (preferably IFS) to maintain traceability, control, and compliance in all quality-related activities.
* Stay updated with emerging quality technologies and lead innovation initiatives to enhance quality processes and efficiency.
Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
* HND Electrical Engineering, or relevant practical experience.
* Six Sigma Yellow Belt or higher (Green Belt desirable).
* Experience working to ISO 9001 standards.
* Experience working to ISO 13485 standards.
* Technical Expertise: In-depth understanding of quality methodologies including SPC, Gauge R&R, PPAP, CAPA, audits, 8D, and supplier quality management.
* Regulatory Knowledge: Experience with compliance frameworks such as CE, UN38.3, UL, and other relevant industry standards.
* Data-Driven Decision Making: Ability to interpret and utilise data effectively to drive quality improvements and reduce defects.
* Leadership and Team Development: Strong ability to mentor and develop a high-performing quality team while fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
* Problem-Solving & Continuous Improvement: Proven track record in leading structured problem-solving initiatives and driving continuous process improvements.
* Stakeholder Management: Strong interpersonal skills to engage cross-functional teams and interact with customers when required.
* ERP & Digital Tools Proficiency: Experience working with ERP systems (IFS preferred) and digital quality tracking tools.
* Innovation Mindset: Proactive in identifying and implementing new quality innovations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
