Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a specialist Band 5 Occupational Therapist in the Neurology Division within stroke and neurosciences, based at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The post will rotate across hyper‑acute, acute stroke and community‑based rehabilitation services based in SPARC at Beech Hill, including integrated ward working, the Community Stroke Service (CSS), and neurosciences wards including critical care.
Our stroke services are accessed via a neurology assessment unit which supports rapid patient assessment and diagnosis, co‑located with a 16‑bed hyper‑acute service and a 28‑bed acute ward. Sheffield has an integrated stroke pathway including a 30‑bed off‑site rehabilitation centre and community stroke services. Neurology and neurosurgery regional wards include 90 beds covering neuro critical care, neurosurgery and neurology. Conditions treated include traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, CNS tumours and motor neuron disease.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out clinical caseload, providing assessment, intervention and discharge planning utilising clinical reasoning skills.
* Conduct cognitive assessment and tonal management as part of core occupational therapy practice.
* Supervise and support students and contribute to the development of the service.
* Participate in a seven‑day therapy roster, providing services on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.
* Work collaboratively across hyper‑acute, acute, and community services within the Neurology Division.
Eligibility and Requirements
1. Experience in core areas of occupational therapy, including neurology, with a good basic knowledge of occupational therapy practice.
2. Evidence of continuing personal and professional development.
3. Effective interpersonal, communication and team‑working skills.
4. Strong clinical reasoning skills in assessment and discharge planning.
5. Knowledge of cognitive assessments and treatment planning.
6. Full UK driving licence and access to a car (for community working and domiciliary visits).
7. Compliance with Skilled Worker visa eligibility and salary threshold rules (if applicable).
