As part of the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) response to tackling fraud within the welfare system, the Department utilises covert surveillance to gather evidence to prove or disprove offences. This is an opportunity to join as a team leader within our team of highly trained, dedicated Operatives in this challenging but highly rewarding role. This is not a normal office hours role. It will require you to work unsociable hours (early start and late finishes), including some weekend work, alongside a good level of fitness.
CFCD Covert Surveillance Team Leader responsibilities include:
1. Providing leadership to ensure the effective operation of the team, including fostering teamwork, developing, and implementing processes.
2. Regular deployment on surveillance operations, promoting professional development through skills reviews to ensure compliance with training and practices.
3. Creating an environment that promotes engagement, coaching, and a team-based approach.
4. Working with the team on tasking requests, ensuring activities are legal, cost-effective, and compliant with relevant legislation such as Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, The Police Act 1997, and Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act 1996.
5. Leading surveillance activities as an Officer in Charge when necessary, providing direction to meet operational objectives.
6. Undertaking risk assessments and managing evidential packages to high standards, including witness statements, exhibit evidence, and video/audio evidence, ensuring legal compliance and proper documentation.
7. Adhering to DWP's surveillance standards and procedures, ensuring compliance with legal and policy requirements.
8. Completing required training and assessments, some of which may be residential, to support role duties.
9. Promoting professional standards at all times.
10. Representing the department as a witness in court as needed.
11. Participating actively in surveillance operations, which may involve irregular hours, travel, and overnight stays.
