Overview
The Community Children’s Nursing Service is part of a network of services for children in Greenwich and Bexley. The post is based within the special schools setting and involves leading on annual reviews, continence support, and assisting with asthma and weight management. The post holder must possess good communication and clinical skills and be able to work as part of the wider Community Children’s Nursing Service. An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 4 Nursery nurse to work within the Greenwich and Bexley Special Schools nursing team. The post holder will have experience working with children with complex healthcare needs and additional needs, and demonstrate commitment to continued development and innovation within the team. This role involves working as part of an integrated child & youth health nursing service, collaborating with local and tertiary hospitals, the children’s community nursing team, and continuing care team. The post holder will participate in the development and implementation of practice within the special schools nursing team and ensure that evidence-based practice is delivered. You will work closely with the special school nurses and the children’s community nurses to carry out care plans for the children in the special schools.
Responsibilities
* Lead on annual reviews.
* Provide continence support and assist with medicines management within the Special Schools.
* Assist with health assessments and clinical care in accordance with healthcare plans.
* Contribute to the management of asthma and weight management for children.
* Support the school nurse with medicines management and clinical emergencies.
* Carry out care planning with the school staff and families and maintain accurate clinical records, updating RIO records in a timely manner.
* Maintain continence care plans and implement toilet training programs in collaboration with education staff and families.
* Be familiar with IT systems such as Microsoft Word and the RIO database.
* Support children with special educational needs.
* Adhere to safe ways of working and comply with Trust and London Child Protection procedures.
