Force Recruitment is working exclusively with a well-established civil engineering and infrastructure contracting company in Lancashire to appoint a Civils Estimator. Our client delivers infrastructure, utilities and earthworks schemes across the North West and prides itself on quality, reliability and professionalism.
The Role:
You will join the commercial team reporting into the Commercial/Estimating Manager. Your core responsibility will be to produce accurate, competitive and commercially viable tender submissions for civil engineering and infrastructure projects—from initial scope review to tender submission and hand-over into delivery. You will work closely with quantity surveyors, project managers, site engineers and the supply chain.
Key responsibilities include:
* Review and interpret drawings, specifications and contract documents to establish project scope.
* Prepare detailed cost estimates (labour, plant, materials, subcontractors) for civils works (e.g., drainage, highways, utility infrastructure, earthworks).
* Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain up-to-date pricing and maintain rate libraries.
* Undertake risk assessments, carry out value engineering and provide clear tender commentary.
* Prepare and submit tender documentation and support pre-bid and post-bid negotiations.
* Maintain and update estimating databases, cost libraries and historical records.
* Transition successful tenders into the delivery team and contribute to continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will possess:
* Significant experience (typically 3-5+ years) estimating within the civil engineering or infrastructure sector.
* A strong understanding of civil works including drainage, highways, utilities, groundworks and reinstatement.
* Ability to interpret 2D drawings and specifications; and a working knowledge of contract types.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel critical) and familiarity with estimating software (or willingness to learn).
* Commercial awareness, excellent numeracy and communication skills.
* A proactive, organised work style, with the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously.
