The Novel and Compound facility Glass, part of the Zepler Cleanrooms at the University of Southampton, is creating the next generation of advanced materials for optical, photonic, and electronic applications.
You will be hosted in the Sustainable Electronic Technologies group within Electronics and Computer Science, which manages the Novel and Compound facilities. The team specializes in developing chalcogenide and layered materials, from two-dimensional to bulk glasses. We foster a friendly, collaborative, and supportive environment focused on cutting-edge research and the development of our people.
We seek an ambitious candidate to advance next-generation advanced materials, focusing on producing chalcogenide precursors and glasses using unique processes developed at Southampton. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, with excellent problem-solving, time management, and communication skills. In this PDRA role, you will specialize in operating equipment such as gloveboxes, tube furnaces, annealing furnaces, Chemical Vapour Deposition, Atomic Layer Deposition, and various characterization systems. Full training and support will be provided. Additionally, modeling and simulations will be integral to your research, requiring knowledge of AI tools for materials discovery at the atomic level to enhance our capabilities.
Essential skills and experience include a PhD or equivalent in physics, chemistry, engineering, or materials science, a strong publication record, and significant experience in advanced materials science and technology. Experience in leading or supervising research projects is also required.
