An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Highway Inspector to come and join a busy client in the North West. The experienced Highway Inspector will be responsible for investigating highway maintenance issues raised by residents, diagnosing and identifying solutions to problems and identifying appropriate highway maintenance work. You will keep customers informed on progress whilst planning the delivery of the work.
The main duties of the experienced Highway Inspector are:
Carry out highway inspections, assessments, and site investigations to identify required maintenance and repair works.
Investigate highway maintenance issues raised by residents and stakeholders, identifying practical and cost-effective solutions.
Plan, coordinate, and oversee highway maintenance and repair works to ensure delivery to required safety and quality standards.
Supervise highway operatives and repair teams, ensuring safe and effective use of labour, plant, and materials.
Maintain regular communication with customers and stakeholders, providing updates on works and service requests.Respond to highway enquiries in line with relevant highway management policies and procedures.
Support the delivery of maintenance programmes, emergency responses, and seasonal operations including winter maintenance.
Monitor works delivery to ensure compliance with health & safety requirements, service standards, and budget expectations.
Carry out site visits and inspections across operational areas as required.
Contribute to service performance targets, operational reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Work collaboratively with internal departments, contractors, and external stakeholders to support efficient service delivery.
Skills & Experience
Previous experience within highways maintenance, highways operations, civil engineering, or infrastructure services.
Experience supervising operational teams and coordinating repair or maintenance activities.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Ability to identify issues, analyse problems, and implement practical solutions.
Knowledge of health & safety procedures and quality standards within highways or construction environments.
Competent in using Microsoft Office and electronic systems for recording and processing information.
Ability to interpret technical documentation and maintenance specifications.
Full UK driving licence required.
