Apply via: john.deane@servicecare.org.uk About the Role We’re working with a forward-thinking local authority looking to appoint a Procurement Officer to join their Corporate Procurement Service. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in delivering procurement activity across a diverse range of service areas, including Corporate Services, Place, Health & Care, and Children & Young People. You’ll support a category management approach, working closely with Category Managers to deliver procurement exercises, ensure compliance, and help drive value for money across the Council’s third-party spend. Key Responsibilities Procurement Delivery Lead on low to medium value procurement exercises from planning through to contract award Support higher-value and complex procurements alongside Category Managers Prepare tender documentation, specifications, and evaluation materials Manage timelines, clarification processes, and award reporting Stakeholder Engagement Act as a key contact for internal stakeholders, providing clear procurement guidance Work with commissioners, budget holders, and service teams to progress procurement activity Build strong working relationships with suppliers and partners Category Support & Planning Assist in delivering category plans and procurement pipelines Support spend analysis, market research, and early market engagement Identify risks, issues, and opportunities within procurement activity Governance & Compliance Ensure all activity complies with procurement legislation and internal procedures Maintain accurate records for audit and transparency purposes Support contract mobilisation and ensure systems are updated correctly Systems & Continuous Improvement Use systems such as Unit4 ERP, Scanmarket, and Proactis Promote consistent use of e-procurement tools across services Identify and contribute to process improvements About You Knowledge of procurement processes and governance Experience in procurement, commercial, or a regulated environment (public sector desirable but not essential) Strong organisational skills with attention to detail Confident communicator with the ability to work with a range of stakeholders Working towards (or interested in) a professional qualification such as CIPS What’s on Offer Hybrid and flexible working Structured development and career progression within procurement Support towards professional qualifications (e.g. CIPS) Opportunity to work across varied and meaningful service areas Additional Information This organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
