About the Role
Our apprenticeship programme combines college-based learning with on-the-job training to kick‑start your career in Engineering Maintenance.
Hours of Work
Monday to Friday – 0800 to 1700 with attendance at college.
Role Overview
Support the Engineering teams with optimising machinery output and product quality, and minimise plant downtime through effective preventative maintenance, efficient breakdown response, and adherence to a safe and healthy environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Engineering teams to ensure maintenance is carried out in line with the schedule and corrective action is taken efficiently.
* Respond quickly to breakdowns, identify root causes and suggest improvements to prevent recurrence.
* Communicate unscheduled breakdowns to the Engineering Shift Manager / Principal Engineer and work with operations to minimise plant disruption.
* Follow good engineering standards and hygiene practice for the department.
* Ensure all activities comply with company and legislative health and safety guidelines, and highlight improvement opportunities.
* Report health, safety, animal welfare and environmental issues promptly.
* Follow the escalation route for unscheduled plant downtime and minimise downtime with good engineering practice.
* Demonstrate basic problem‑solving techniques to identify root causes.
Requirements
* Numerical and reasoning ability to meet entry level requirements for a technical apprenticeship (Functional skills L2 in Literacy and Numeracy and pass score in Technical Abilities Test).
* Minimum 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above, including Maths, English – Essential and science desirable.
* Practical ability to operate within a FMCG factory.
* Self‑motivated attitude, multi‑tasking ability and thrive in a timeline‑driven environment.
* Interpersonal communication skills.
* Ability to work individually or as part of a team.
* Experience in Engineering is desirable.
* Have been a UK/EU/EAA resident for the past three years or more prior to starting the course.
* Must be within a reasonable radius of the Hereford site.
* Permanent right to stay and work in the UK.
