We are hiring a Mechanical Design & Project Engineer to join our growing team in Leeds, UK.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a confident, self-sufficient individual with 3-5 years' experience in the design and delivery of mechanical systems within the water and/or wastewater industry. You will be able to independently deliver mechanical design packages from concept to commissioning, working effectively either as part of a team or individually.
You will also have the ambition to progress your career towards a Lead Design Engineer role, with responsibility for overseeing designs and leading client discussions on behalf of the company. The role will involve working with the Yorkshire Storm Alliance which is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the other Alliance partners as well as Ward and Burke.
Key Role and Responsibilities
The Mechanical Design & Project Engineer will play a key role within a multidisciplinary team and will be involved in a variety of projects at different stages, ranging from concept design, tender, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and final handover.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
* Adhering to CDM regulations, company procedures, and client asset standards.
* Collaborating with other engineering disciplines throughout each project.
* Selecting equipment and leading discussions with the supply chain.
* Preparing hydraulic calculations for gravity and pumped systems.
* Producing detailed equipment schedules.
* Participating in design studies such as HAZOP and ALM Workshops.
* Working with the CAD team to prepare detailed design drawings and models.
* Reviewing documentation produced internally and externally to ensure conformance with project scopes and objectives.
* Supporting the project team during construction and commissioning phases, including site visits and virtual meetings (e.g., Microsoft Teams).
Essential Requirements
* HNC or Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
* Experience in either the design or delivery of projects within the water/wastewater industry.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Right to work in the UK.
* Full Drivers Licence.
Location
This role is based at Ward & Burke's design office in Swillington, Leeds. Travel to sites across the wider Yorkshire area will be required as project needs arise.
