Sonographer Community Ultrasound (NHS Provider)

Locations: Thames Ditton, Worcester Park, Epsom (Other Surrey sites: Leatherhead, Tadworth, Caterham, Redhill and Dorking)

We are an NHS community provider delivering non‑obstetric ultrasound across GP practices and community hospitals. Join our friendly multidisciplinary team and play a key role in supporting clinicians and guiding patient care.


What You Will Do

* Perform a broad range of non‑obstetric ultrasound exams.
* Independently report findings.
* Work autonomously within supportive community settings.
* Contribute to service development and training initiatives.


What We Are Looking For

* Registered sonographer.
* UK experience with strong general ultrasound skills.
* Confident with transvaginal scanning.

Main Duties of the Job

* Carry out detailed ultrasound examinations and record diagnostic images to PACS.
* Interpret and report the findings in a concise and diagnostic format, maintaining high‑quality patient care.
* Run own lists and timings, integrating with site teams and ensuring efficient patient pathways.
* Produce thorough diagnostic reports using EMIS and SystmOne platforms for patient history and pathology.


Operational Requirements

* Support effective planning, development, organisation and delivery of ultrasound services.
* Keep stock control of consumable items and place orders as necessary.
* Ensure equipment is used appropriately and maintained daily.
* Attend staff meetings and take appropriate actions.
* Help identify, devise and perform audit and research for service improvement.


Continual Professional Development (CPD)

* Take advantage of in‑service training and other self‑development opportunities.
* Maintain advanced technical standards, attend relevant courses and show evidence of CPD.
* Actively participate in audit and clinical governance activities.
* Seek innovative practices to improve local service delivery.


Person Specification


Skills and Aptitudes

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

* Clear problem solver who seeks solutions independently.


Qualifications

* Relevant professional qualification (DMU, PgD or MSC in Medical Ultrasound).
* HCPC registered or equivalent professional registration.
* Documented evidence of CPD.
* Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle (mobile role).
* In‑depth knowledge and expertise in medical ultrasound and proven UK experience.
* Post‑graduate qualification at Masters level, e.g., MSC Ultrasound.

Knowledge

* Wide knowledge of ultrasound examinations and pathology.
* Ability to integrate ultrasound images, laboratory results, patient history and medical records.

* Good standard of IT skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, internet/web).
* Advanced IT skills and knowledge of EMIS or SystmOne systems.
* Experience with audit and research.


Experience

* Effectively operate a variety of ultrasound machines.
* Independently report on ultrasound examinations.
* Strong clinical judgement and decision‑making.
* Ability to review images and assess need for further imaging.
* Experience with NHS databases EMIS, SystmOne.
* Proven previous experience of working within the NHS in a similar role.
* Experience of audit and research, and MSK experience.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and a Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service is required for any previous convictions.

Salary: £65,000 to £75,000 per annum FTE (depending on experience).

Work Eligibility: Applicants must hold the right to work in the UK at the time of application.
