Flood and Coastal Principal Engineer – Somerset Council
Location: County Hall, Taunton – Remote working possible with manager approval.
Contract: Permanent, full‑time (37 hours per week). Annual Leave: 30 days plus bank holidays.
Responsibilities
* Lead the development and implementation of an Asset Management System and Infrastructure Maintenance & Renewal Programme for flood & coastal management infrastructure.
* Promote sustainable and innovative engineering solutions across projects.
* Support and manage Officers in response to riparian management matters, providing deliberation and assessment.
* Mentor and support other Officers, fostering continuous improvement and mutual support.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
* Chartership with a relevant professional body (e.g., Institute of Civil Engineers).
* In‑depth understanding of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, Land Drainage Act 1991, and the Coast Protection Act 1949.
* Expert knowledge in Engineering Infrastructure Asset Management Strategy and Implementation, linking Service Levels, Risk, Investment, Criticality, and Asset Lifecycles.

Salary
Grade 9, £41,771 – £46,142 per annum.
