Role Overview
The Data Centre Engineer is responsible for the delivery of Data Centre Engineering and Implementation projects and providing technical support for TP ICAP Global Datacentre Infrastructure. As part of a Global Core Infrastructure Engineering & OPS team, the successful candidate will be a strong technical lead with excellent troubleshooting skills. The individual is responsible for developing partnerships with other teams and managing the performance of external vendors.
Role Responsibilities
1. Translate requirements from network and platform architects and engineers into specific deployment plans. Ensuring design plans are implemented accurately and efficiently.
2. Responsible for managing datacenter hardware assets and engaging vendor’s repairs and escalations.
3. Strong knowledge of specifications of cages, PDUs, switches, routers and other network gears, power management and cost analysis, fiber types, cross-connects, cable wiring. Hans-on experience of Cisco UCS blades and HP rackmounts, and storage are big plus.
4. Responsible for day-to-day DC management including monitoring and ensuring design plans are implemented accurately and efficiently.
5. Work with internal/external group (telecoms, equipment vendors, NOC, customers) to assist with installation, troubleshooting, and repairs/replacements.
6. Complete tasks required to maintain service levels and availability of all site features and functions.
7. Contribute to knowledge sharing by maintaining accurate documentation and KB sharing.
Experience / Competences
Essential
8. Strong knowledge of power management, fiber types, cross-connects, cable wiring.
9. Strong understanding of a broad range of technical skills in IT Infrastructure including network, servers, and storages, services.
10. Strong knowledge of Datacenter management tools and asset management.
11. Ability to complete tasks and projects with tight deadlines.
12. Proven problem-solving skills with an emphasis on quick problem resolution.
13. Ability to work on many tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment.
14. Robust appreciation of the impact and risk of changes in a business-critical environment.
15. Eager to learn and to ‘roll up sleeves’ in a busy environment.
16. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and a proven ability to articulate technology solutions and challenges.
17. Demonstrate evidence of well written documentation covering design and run-books.
18. Complex service delivery experience, preferably in a Multi-Vendor environment.
19. A pro-active approach to Service Management, focus on preventative to reactive support.
20. Shift left Continuous Improvement approach.
21. Demonstrable experience as a senior datacenter OPS engineer within enterprise environment.
22. Knowledge and experience of ITIL working practices, including change management

24. Experience working in Financial Services, either directly or through a service provider

26. Educated to degree level in a technical discipline, or equivalent experience
27. Cisco Datacenter as a service training or certification
