Overview
Band 5 Registered nurse, up to 112.5 hours per week, full time permanent. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join the team on Maple A (Relocated from Aspen ward) at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. Maple A is a 22 bedded unit accommodating elective and surgical procedures looking after colorectal, upper and lower GI, urology and gynae. The successful candidate will benefit from working with a supportive, experienced team.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast paced environment. Applicants from both experienced and newly qualified nurses are welcome, with a noted level of support for newly qualified staff.
Responsibilities
* Be responsible for your own team of patients.
* Complete admission packages.
* Medication administration (oral, sub-cutaneous, intravenous and intra-muscular).
* Care of patients pre- and post-operatively.
* Management of naso-gastric tubes, drains, wounds, and stoma care.
* Discharge planning.

Qualifications & Experience
* Essential: Registered nurse (adult) with active registration.
* Desirable: NST 307 or equivalent; relevant postgraduate development or equivalent.
* Essential: Experience in NHS or general nursing (student nurses or equivalent may apply in some contexts).
* Desirable: Relevant field of nursing; budgetary awareness; supporting students.

* Continuing professional development with portfolio; NMC code of professional conduct; equality legislation and best practice.
* Flexibility of working hours; motivation; enthusiasm; positive approach to change; willingness to develop by expanding the role.

* Desirable: IT skills; extended clinical skills (e.g., venepuncture, ECG interpretation); leadership and problem-solving skills.
