Purpose: To inspire hope, reduce stigma, and support others by showing that recovery is possible. About the Role CGL is committed to building a community that is supportive, inclusive, and free from stigma. As a Peer Mentor, you will use your lived experience of recovery to encourage others, offer a listening ear, and help people feel part of a positive, welcoming recovery community. This is an exciting, fun, and meaningful opportunity. Peer Mentors help change lives—not through pressure or perfection—but simply by showing up with compassion, understanding, and authenticity. The main criteria are simple: You care. You are able to listen. You want to help show that recovery is possible. You are reliable and ready for a new challenge. You understand the importance of having healthy boundaries No formal qualifications needed. No pressure. Just people helping people. Training will be provided. Key Activities: As a Peer Mentor, you may choose to support in ways that feel right for you, such as: Offering informal, non‑judgemental peer support to people at various stages of recovery. Sharing hope and lived experience appropriately to inspire and reassure others. Supporting group activities, workshops, or recovery community events. Helping welcome new service users, showing them around, or helping them feel comfortable. Encouraging people to engage with support, access activities, or explore their own strengths. Contributing to a recovery community that is safe, inclusive, respectful, and stigma‑free. Working alongside staff while understanding the boundaries of a mentoring role. Attending training provided by CGL to help you feel confident and supported. What You Will Bring A desire to help others in their recovery journey. Empathy, kindness, and good listening skills. Respect for confidentiality and personal boundaries. Reliability and a positive attitude toward recovery. A willingness to grow, learn, and be part of a supportive team. You do not need to be at a particular stage of recovery—just stable, ready, and wanting to give something back. What You Can Expect From CGL A warm, friendly team who value your lived experience. Training, and support to help you develop in the role. Opportunities to get involved in groups, fun activities, events, outreach, and community projects. The chance to build confidence, skills, and connections.
