Role Overview We require a Fettler for an immediate start on a long-term basis on site at Port Clarence, Middlesbrough. As part of the process, a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS); check will be conducted. This will require proof of 3 years of employment history; applicants must be UK Nationals. Hours of Work Monday to Friday 0700 hrs to 1500 hrs (37.5 hours per week) Rates of Pay 2025 £15.12 per hour Benefits 23 days holiday plus statutory (rising to 25 days plus statutory with service) Life Insurance of £40,000 Paycare health cashback scheme Company Sick Pay (based on service) Flexibility to sell back holidays at the year-end or carry over Key Responsibilities: Grind, deburr, and smooth welded or cut edges of metal components using hand tools, grinders, and other fettling equipment Remove sharp edges, slag, spatter, and imperfections to ensure safe handling and a high-quality finish Inspect fabricated parts for defects such as cracks, burrs, and rough surfaces, reporting any issues to the supervisor Prepare surfaces for painting, coating, or further fabrication by cleaning and ensuring proper finish Operate a range of hand tools, grinders, and power tools in a safe and efficient manner Follow engineering drawings and job instructions to meet dimensional and finish requirements Maintain a clean and organised work area, adhering to housekeeping and 5S standards Work to production schedules and meet deadlines without compromising quality. Follow all WESL health, safety, and environmental procedures, always wearing appropriate PPE & RPE To work in accordance with WESL Quality procedures, policies and standard working practices Skills & Experience: Essential: Experience working in a fabrication, engineering, or metal finishing environment Competence in using grinders, sanders, and other fettling tools Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship Good understanding of health & safety practices in a workshop environment Desirable: Experience with heavy steel fabrication or structural steelwork Knowledge of different metal finishes and preparation methods Ability to read and understand basic fabrication drawings Personal Attributes: Physically fit with the ability to handle manual work and heavy components Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic Able to work independently or as part of a team Flexible and willing to adapt to changing priorities
