Senior Associate – Shipping & Trading (8+ PQE)
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced shipping and commodities disputes lawyer to join a highly regarded international practice. This is a senior position offering exposure to major cross-border disputes while enjoying a more balanced and flexible working arrangement than typical City roles.
The Role
The successful candidate will join a leading Energy, Marine & Natural Resources team advising on complex, high-value shipping and trading disputes, including charterparty, COA, bill of lading, and sale contract matters. The work involves both litigation and arbitration for a global client base of trading houses, energy businesses, and industrial operators.
You’ll be handling live disputes, managing cases from start to finish, leading client relationships, and mentoring junior lawyers. The role also offers the opportunity to be involved in business development and practice growth alongside supportive, hands-on partners.
The Opportunity
This position offers the chance to undertake top-tier international work within a more personable, collaborative environment. You’ll benefit from first-rate technical exposure, genuine autonomy, and clear scope for career progression—without the long-hours culture often found in City practices.
The Candidate
* England & Wales-qualified solicitor with 8+ years’ PQE.
* Strong experience in shipping or commodities disputes, encompassing litigation and/or arbitration.
* Excellent case management, drafting, and client-handling skills.
* Confident operating independently with a commercially pragmatic approach.
* Ambitious and team-oriented, with an interest in building long-term client relationships.
* Returning candidates from international or in-house environments are also encouraged to apply.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a senior disputes lawyer seeking complex, high-value work within a progressive and supportive firm.
