About the role and what were looking for

Cornerstone is professional arts, culture and entertainment venue in the heart of Didcot. The centres host a range of professional performances including dance, theatre, music, comedy, conference and cinema, and also cater extensively for wider community projects such as workshops, classes, exhibitions and lectures.

Beacon is a community & arts centre located in Wantage with a growing programme of professional and local acts.

We are seeking an experienced and pro-active Technical Co-ordinator to join our technical department and lead our existing team in the running of performances and events across both centres.

Main duties and responsibilities

To be responsible for the overall management of the technical department across two venues which includes:

Work with the Arts Programme Manager to ensure that the technical requirements of all potential acts can be accommodated;
Gather all advance information of performances and conferences in a timely and efficient manner, in order to facilitate effective planning and deployment of technical staff & equipment across both venues.
Liaise with incoming companies & hirers at all times representing the council and the venues, and working to understand and realise the technical needs of their productions and offer and negotiate alternative solutions where necessary.
To disseminate all relevant information across the rest of the relevant teams.
To work with the Venue Manager to ensure that at all times that shows running to the highest possible standard.
To ensure excellent record keeping
Ensure the auditoriums and other spaces are prepared in advance of a visiting company or hirers arrival, including setting up of technical and other equipment to meet the requirements of the performance or event.
Act as Duty Technician and venue point-of-contact for visiting companies and hirers whilst they are in the building.
Operate live shows in a variety of roles to a high standard for companies/hirers without their own crew.
Work with visiting companies and hirers to ensure the show or event is presented to the highest standards expected by our audiences.

Both venues schedule its arts programme all year long. There is an expectation in this role to be available to work unsociable hours (evenings/weekends) and over the Christmas period, for which you will receive time off in lieu.

About you

Your essential skills, knowledge and experience

Experience of managing the technical department of small-to-medium sized venues (200 seats or greater)
Experience of operating & programming sound, lighting and AV equipment in a professional venue, tour, or live events setting.
Experience of working on a range of event genres music, theatre, comedy, dance, childrens shows, lectures, and corporate hires.
Experience of live sound engineering and theory
A positive and pro-active approach along with a keen eye for detail and an aptitude for problem solving.
Ability to prioritise workload and schedule accordingly.
Ability to self-motivate and work independently as required.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and ability to communicate effectively with a range of individuals including visiting performers, hirers, third-party companies, contractors, and other departments (including non-Arts staff in other council teams).
A good knowledge of industry related health and safety regulations and statutory requirements for operating sound, light and other technical equipment.
Ability to work at height & in low-light conditions.
Good IT skills including experience of Microsoft Programs.
Good technical maintenance skills

Your essential qualifications

GCSEs including Maths & English

If you have the following experience or qualifications its a bonus

Technical qualifications
Experience in project management
Experience of working on live events in a local authority setting
Experience in lighting or sound design for live events
PAT testing qualification and/or experience
Relevant qualifications in technical work in an arts setting
Working at Height certification (IPAF or similar)
Full, clean UK driving license
