Advanced Occupational Therapist – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
You will be a valued member of the integrated OT/PT therapy respiratory team, working closely with specialist SLTs and Dietitians in a fast‑moving ICU/Respiratory setting. The role is designed for an experienced Band 6 or Band 7 Occupational Therapist with critical‑care and respiratory experience, who can support the 21‑bed general Critical Care Unit and the 22‑bed respiratory ward. The post can be offered as a development opportunity: start as a Band 6 Occupational Therapist with progression to Band 7 upon completion of set competencies within 12 months. The successful candidate will be supported to gain in‑depth knowledge and experience in complex ICU case management through an individualised competency framework.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver advanced Occupational Therapy intervention for the ICU and respiratory ward.
* Lead advanced cognitive and functional assessment and treatment of patients with complex, acute and/or chronic conditions, including psychosocial, emotional and cognitive issues.
* Participate in service reviews, audits and implement evidence‑based therapy practice/standards alongside the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, Highly Specialist Speech and Language therapist and Dietitian.
* Provide formal supervision to Band 5/6 Occupational Therapists and/or therapy assistants/students, and informal support to Band 5/6 physiotherapists.
Required Skills & Experience
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to facilitate change and development.
* Flexible approach and strong teamwork, capable of working autonomously and as part of the wider MDT.
* Clinical knowledge and experience with critical care and respiratory patient cohorts.
* Desirable: experience of service development in the ICU/respiratory area.
* Band 6 or Band 7 Occupational Therapist experience (required).
