City of York Council has exciting opportunities for ambitious and innovative lawyers, both newly qualified and more experienced, to join our legal services team. If you thrive in a busy environment and enjoy working as part of a friendly team, this may be the opportunity for you.
The roles will focus on one of the following areas of work:
* Contracts & Commercial
* Property
All roles will support the Council’s major projects teams, working on a range of multi-disciplinary, high-profile projects such as York Station Gateway and York Outer Ring Road, along with other exciting redevelopment projects in York.
Contracts & Commercial roles will support the Council on a wide range of contractual and commercial matters, from day-to-day commercial work to complex and high-value project work.
The property role will support the Council in advising on property transactions related to the extensive housing and commercial property portfolio.
As part of a wider legal service, you will be at the forefront of significant changes as we implement the new Council Plan.
We are seeking to appoint two qualified solicitors with extensive experience in Contracts & Commercial or Property. We may consider less experienced candidates if they have relevant experience in major projects or high-value, complex contracts or land/development agreements. These are career-grade roles with opportunities for progression to Senior Lawyer. More details about experience and qualifications are in the attached job descriptions.
We also have a non-career grade Contract & Commercial opportunity for candidates who are less experienced and working towards qualification.
Please specify which role(s) you are interested in in your supporting statement.
If you are an ambitious, innovative solicitor, barrister, or CILEX with contracts & commercial or property experience, and are eager to influence change, a role within our service could be your next career move.
The Council is committed to investing in our staff’s talent and wellbeing. We offer a generous annual leave, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive health & wellbeing initiatives, and a rewarding package. We support flexible working, community engagement, volunteer activities, and continuous learning & development. Additionally, we provide a range of discounts, rewards, and savings.
Hybrid working arrangements are available. Your working arrangements will be tailored based on role requirements and in collaboration with you during recruitment. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
