Principal Platform Architect
Remote-first (UK) | £110,000 - £150,000 + bonus

We are looking for a Principal Platform Architect to lead the design and delivery of modern cloud platforms underpinning some of the most complex and ambitious programmes in the UK public sector. This is a senior technical leadership role where you will shape cloud strategy, guide multi-disciplinary teams, and work directly with senior stakeholders to deliver impactful business transformation.
The Role
As a Principal Platform Architect, you will: Lead the design and delivery of large-scale cloud platforms, enabling digital transformation at enterprise scale.
Define architectural principles and establish strategic direction across programmes.
Collaborate with senior stakeholders, including at executive and C-level, to align technology decisions with business outcomes.
Provide technical leadership to agile, multi-disciplinary teams, helping them navigate complex technical landscapes.
Contribute to practice growth by mentoring architects and engineers, supporting career development, and driving capability advancement.
Skills & Experience
Essential: Proven experience leading cloud transformation programmes, including migrations, application modernisation, and platform deployments.
Hands-on expertise in public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
Strong background in DevOps and platform engineering, including: CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps)
Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation)
Containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, AKS, EKS, GKE)
Cloud security, governance, and compliance frameworks
Experience building and maintaining senior stakeholder relationships, presenting solutions, and driving consensus between business and technical teams.
Track record of coaching, mentoring, and leading technical teams.
Desirable: Experience contributing to business development and account growth.
Previous accountability for creating or promoting new products, services, or reusable platform patterns.
Experience helping bring challenging programmes back on track.
Active participation in technology communities, knowledge sharing, or thought leadership.
Package Salary: £110,000 - £150,000 depending on experience
