Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Type: Onsite, Work Type: Permanent, Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Industry: Space, Location: Surrey, Salary: Negotiable DoE.

Responsibilities
* Responsible for the design of new structural developments and oversee sub‑systems integration from concepts through to testing and flight.
* Design platform components, assemblies and systems to fulfil customer and project requirements using 3D modelling tools and techniques.
* Design Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) for the assembly, handling, and test of equipment.
* Design electronics enclosures through close liaison with the electrical design team to ensure compatibility with Printed Circuit Assemblies (PCAs).
* Implementation of design changes using Engineering Change Notes (ECNs).
* Close working relationships with mechanical analysts, project managers, system engineers and manufacturing disciplines.
* Manage mechanical Work Packages and estimate own schedule & budgets.
* Lead and support key team and project milestone reviews.
* Complete manufacturing drawings to enable component procurement and support manufacturing activities and inspections.
* Technical report writing.
* Write detailed assembly procedures and technical build information.
* Undertake build activities for mechanical hardware in clean room facilities.
* Create and maintain build logs.
* Create BoM's and manage procurement demand through the company Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system.
Qualifications
* Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent.
* Competent use of leading CAD packages (SolidWorks preferred, Solid Edge or similar) and familiarity with MRP systems.
* Specifying/identifying appropriate materials, surface treatments and finishes for mechanical component design in aerospace applications.
* Understanding of Finite Element Analysis and ability to perform basic analysis of secondary structure desirable but not essential.
* Experience of spacecraft level static, dynamic and thermo‑elastic analysis using latest FEA tools.
* Experience of mechanical testing such as vibration, static and shock.
* Candidate should hold a background as Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Systems Engineer, Structural Engineer, Analysis Engineer, Stress Engineer, Structural Design Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, FEA Engineer or Systems Design Engineer.
