Service: Children Looked After, North & Mid Devon - Team 1
An exciting opportunity for a Family Practitioner has become available within our Children Looked After Team based in North Devon.
About the Role
The role of a family practitioner is dynamic, diverse, and demanding. You will provide essential support to children and young people in our care, along with their families, who are facing complex challenges. You will play a vital role in building and nurturing strong relationships with families and other professionals, aiming to offer encouragement, assistance, and support when facilitating meaningful transformations within families.
Being a successful family practitioner requires effective teamwork, as well as the self-motivation and independence to deliver tailored support. In collaboration with social workers, you will assess the type and duration of support that would be most beneficial for each family, taking the lead in implementing these interventions.
About You
Advocating for the children and young people of Devon, you will have a positive and professional approach to your role, working in line with statutory obligations. You will champion restorative practice and encourage a collaborative culture, where opportunities for reflection and learning are supported.
You will demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt your approach when meeting the unique needs of different families. Flexibility and the desire to learn is crucial when engaging with children and young people, particularly those that require specialised methods/approaches. Previous experience of working with families who have complex needs would be advantageous. In addition, basic IT skills are required for maintaining accurate records.
Our service is dedicated to providing timely support to children, young people, and their families, particularly during critical moments so the ability to manage unexpected changes and crisis situations in conjunction with social workers is essential.
Devon is predominantly a rural county, and our service areas cover extensive regions. As a family practitioner, you will be expected to travel to meet the needs of children and young people in our care. In some locations, relying solely on walking, cycling, or public transport may pose challenges in meeting these requirements. Therefore, having access to your own reliable transportation is necessary, with reasonable adjustments made in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
