Our client is one of the largest, most successful international multidisciplinary consultancies in the world, with offices across the UK and teams based in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Their Building Services team plays a leading role in some of the world's most challenging and exciting engineering projects across sectors including Residential, Blue Light, Education, Mission Critical, Aviation, Energy (e.g., Fission, Fusion, Large scale PV), Commercial Offices, Transportation, and Defence.
Their work involves collaboration with UK and international designers on projects ranging from individual buildings to city-scale solutions.
Your new role
Our client is seeking to appoint a mechanically biased UK Technical Director within their Building Services design team. You will lead a key technical capability, delivering building services, sustainability, building performance, and low-carbon solutions across multidisciplinary teams of Architects and Engineers.
Reporting directly to the UK Practice Director and Professional Head of Discipline, you will influence over 900 Engineers and Architects within their national Building Design practice.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Setting project development directions at concept stages with regular reviews as designs become detailed.
* Establishing quality and technical standards, identifying new technologies, and guiding training initiatives, with support from regional Technical Authorities.
* Owning technical responsibility for project quality, standards, and delivery processes.
* Providing technical support to clients across various areas.
* Staying informed on UK Government policies and industry initiatives related to Building Services.
* Representing the company as a Subject Matter Expert on Mechanical Building Services.
* Developing strong relationships with internal and external clients and managing client relationships strategically.
* Managing key client accounts.
* Providing leadership, motivation, and technical guidance to the Building Services team on projects.
What you'll need to succeed
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent.
* Chartered Engineer status.
* 15+ years of post-chartership experience.
* Deep experience in concepts, theories, detailed design, and compliance of Mechanical Building Services.
* Experience delivering consultancy services for both private and public sector clients.
* Extensive project experience demonstrating technical competence and a track record of successful design and process delivery.
* Ability to influence senior management and industry peers, challenging decisions and processes effectively.
* Leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire teams.
* Strong commercial awareness, business acumen, and results-oriented approach.
* Customer-focused with excellent relationship management skills.
* Effective communication skills and a professional approach to clients and colleagues.
