The Role

1. To lead, develop, coordinate and represent speech and language therapy services for adults with acquired communication and swallowing needs across NHS Lanarkshire in line with the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service Objectives and Local and National Policy and targets.
2. To work collaboratively as a member of the SLT Senior Leadership team, which also includes CYP and ALD Service Managers and Professional Lead, to agree priorities and ensure consistency and quality across the SLT service.
3. To be accountable for delivering a quality service and meeting SLT service targets and objectives for the SLT Adult Acquired Service.
4. To be responsible for the delivery of advice, support, clinical supervision, training, updated evidence-based information and second-line assessment within Adult services.
5. Line management responsibility for site co-ordinators of three teams which include acute and community services.
6. Overall management of staff attendance and performance, ensuring that issues are escalated from site co-ordinators to Adult Service Manager and from Adult Service Manager to Professional Lead appropriately.
7. To be accountable and responsible to the Professional Lead for exercising good clinical and financial governance.
8. To lead on designated projects across NHS Lanarkshire.
9. To carry a small clinical caseload within the adult acquired specialism at advanced practitioner level.

Scope and Range Specific to Post

10. Deputises for the Head of Profession as required.
11. Has responsibility for management of staff within the specified remit.
12. Has responsibility to ensure consistent and equitable service provision across the Adult Acquired service in NHS Lanarkshire in conjunction with the Professional Lead
13. Influences policy and decision making at local and national level.
14. Advises the Professional Lead / Head of Service as to service and development issues for the Adult Acquired Service.
15. Ensures clinical competence at all levels of the Adult Acquired Service by facilitating clinical supervision and clinical governance in all respects of service delivery.
16. Provides training and development opportunities within this specialty, creating an ongoing learning environment for personal and professional development.
17. Agrees learning plans for Adult Acquired Service staff in conjunction with site co-ordinators and the Professional Lead/Head of Service
18. Ensures that all data requested and provided for area of responsibility is provided accurately and timeously.

What we'll need you to bring

19. Registered Speech and Language Therapist with valid HCPC Validation.
20. Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level.
21. Be able to demonstrate knowledge of NHS Scotland’s Leadership Qualities Framework or equivalent framework.
22. Management knowledge gained through experience and continuous professional development.
23. Professional, leadership and managerial experience within speciality/area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safely, effectively and efficiently.
24. Extensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the health care agenda.
25. Experience of assessing training needs.
26. Experience of resource management e.g. financial; human; capital.
27. Experience in service planning, project management and performance monitoring/reporting.
28. Knowledge and experience of needs assessment and analysis/interpretation of related data.
29. A proven track record in sound and effective leadership. Ability to think strategically, corporately and act as a team player.
30. A proven track record in developing innovative solutions in meeting organisational requirements and motivating staff to affect change.
31. A proven track record in developing teams/services and integrated solutions to complex and challenging problems.
32. Develops own clinical knowledge base evidence by attendance at CENs, journal clubs, review of current literature.
33. Full driving licence holder.
34. Working knowledge of basic information technology.

It would be great if you also have

35. Member of RCSLT
36. Qualification and/or experience in management or clinical leadership
37. Evidence of attendance on specialist postgraduate courses and advanced training up to Masters level or equivalent in particular specialist areas
38. Training in HR issues and managing change
39. Experience of involvement in activities beyond own clinical practice
40. Experience and knowledge of needs assessment and analysis/interpretation of related data
41. Proven track record in sound and effective leadership
42. Able to demonstrate knowledge of a variety of leadership approaches
43. Management knowledge gained through experience and CPD
44. Extensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards
45. Develops own clinical knowledge base
46. Knowledge of current legislation within Health and Social Care
47. Knowledge of current issues at national and local level within Adult Acquired Services

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Speech and Language Therapy within University Hospital Monklands
