Overview
We are looking to appoint an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist to join our welcoming and psychologically minded team to provide a service of excellence for Older People within Hertfordshire. This post involves a range of responsibilities from specialist assessments and intervention to supervision and support of other psychology team members, and close collaboration with the wider multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will play a central role in supervision, teaching, and supporting links with the local university. The role emphasises compassionate and trauma-informed services, service development, and consultancy to enhance the psychology offer. The team prioritises continuous quality improvement and co-production with clients.
Responsibilities
* Complete specialist psychological assessments (including risk assessments) and provide highly specialist psychological treatment for clients referred to the service.
* Provide professional and clinical supervision to Assistant Psychologists and Trainee Clinical Psychologists; support psychology service development, evaluation, research, and teaching; maintain standards in supervision and CPD.
* Offer highly specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing to client formulation, diagnosis and case management plans.
* Support audit, research, and project development within the service; participate in multi-disciplinary forums and contribute to service development.
* Contribute to the clinical governance and risk management processes and maintain professional standards of practice and record keeping.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Doctoral level training as a practitioner psychologist (or equivalent) with accreditation by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, psychometrics, neuropsychology, two or more psychological therapies, and lifespan development psychology.
* Experience of specialist psychological assessment (including risk assessment) and treatment across diverse client groups and settings; able to maintain professionalism in challenging situations.
* Formal training in supervision of other psychologists; ability to teach and train others using complex materials for diverse audiences.
* Ability to engage in clinical governance and maintain high standards of clinical practice under regular exposure to emotive material and challenging behaviour.
Clinical Practice
* Provide highly specialist psychological assessments and formulate and implement plans for treatment and risk management based on evidence-based frameworks.
* Deliver a range of highly specialist psychological interventions, refining formulations and maintaining provisional hypotheses as needed.
* Evaluate treatment options considering theoretical and therapeutic models and complex historical/developmental factors.
* Communicate complex, technically sensitive information clearly to clients, families, carers and professional colleagues.
Teaching, Training and Supervision
* Receive regular supervision from a senior clinical psychologist and, where appropriate, other senior colleagues.
* Develop skills in post-graduate teaching, training and supervision; provide supervision for assistant psychologists and Trainee Clinical Psychologists; contribute to pre- and post-qualification teaching.
* Provide advice, consultation and training to staff across agencies; contribute to team dynamics and risk management related to personality disorders.
Management, Recruitment, Policy and Service Development
* Support psychological aspects of service development; contribute to policy evaluation and service evaluation through research and audit.
* Advise health services and management on psychological and organisational matters; manage workloads of assistants and trainees where required; participate in shortlisting and interviewing for assistant/graduate psychologists.
* Participate in multi-disciplinary forums related to service delivery (clinical reviews, referral meetings, etc.).
Information Resources
* Maintain personal records, data processing and storage, and minutes as appropriate; ensure databases are maintained.
Research and Service Evaluation
* Have doctoral-level knowledge of research methodology and analysis; use evidence-based literature to support practice; contribute to research and provide guidance to staff undertaking research; undertake project management and audit/service evaluation as needed.
General
* Maintain professional standards through CPD and supervision; stay current with developments in clinical psychology and related disciplines; maintain high standards of clinical record keeping and knowledge of legislation and policies relevant to the client group and mental health.
Eligibility and Additional Information
* Must hold HCPC registration in Clinical or Counseling Psychology; Doctoral level qualification in clinical psychology or equivalent.
* Desirable: additional postgraduate training in a specific psychological therapy or neuropsychology; experience with older people; experience in teaching, training and supervision; experience applying psychology across different cultural contexts.
