We have an opportunity for the correct candidate to be appointed to the role of 12 month Locum Consultant in Anaesthetics with General Anaesthesia
This post will be across both sites and cross site sessions sessions incorporated into the job plan

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of medical services to approximately 420,000 people living across southwest London and northeast Surrey. In addition, we provide more specialist services, in particular renal and neonatal intensive care to a wider area covering parts of Sussex and Hampshire.
The Epsom & St Helier Anaesthetic department is aligned with the STG teaching programme for medical students and the South Thames School of Anaesthesia training programme.
There is a well established Simulation teaching programme which may give opportunites for suitably qualified applicants.
We score highly in national Hip Fracture audit data and are one of the busiest 5 units in London.
We have a dedicated daycase Paediatric Hospital with visiting Surgeons from St Georges and a very busy Obstetric Unit which accepts outside referrals.
Main duties of the job
Principle Duties of the Post
The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients:
1. To always, comply with the GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice' as amended or
substituted from time to time.
1. To ensure that patient confidentiality is always maintained.
2. To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in
agreement with your Clinical Director.
1. To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust
resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
1. On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust's corporate Induction (or
arranged Consultant Induction).
1. To participate in the Trust's Statutory & Mandatory training programme.
2. To be responsible for the Clinical Management of in and outpatients under your care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Proposed Job Plan:
The proposed job plan for this post within the JD. This will be discussed in detail with the post holder on appointment and become operational.
Job plans will be reviewed annually, following an appraisal meeting. The job plan will be a
prospective agreement that sets out a consultant's typical working pattern, duties, objectives and
responsibilities for the coming year. It will cover all aspects of a consultant's professional practice
including clinical work, teaching, research, education, managerial responsibilities and external commitments.
Additional programmed activities may be offered to the post holder. Any offer of additional programmed activities will be based on the needs of the service and in line with the Trust objectives and will be reviewed on an annual basis.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Hold a medical qualification or qualification registered with the GMC
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining CCT/CESR or equivalent
* Minimum of 6 months advanced higher obstetric anesthesia training/ or equivalent
* EPALS / APLS training
* ELS training
* Higher ICM training or equivalent
* Higher paediatric anaesthesia training or equivalent
Desirable criteria
* Specialist interest in other anesthetic sub-specialties
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
* Broad experience in peri- operative medicine for high risk patients
Desirable criteria
* Broad range of experience in delivering anaesthesia for elective and emergency surgery for patients of all ages
Management Training
Essential criteria
* Has attended a recognised management training event or will have such training on completion of CCT/CESR
Desirable criteria
* Familiarity with issues of service organisation and development
Teaching Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
