At Sheffield Forgemasters we have an exciting opportunity for a Quality Controller to join our team.
This role is based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield, and will be working as part of our Technical department in our Forge.
Our Forge department uses comprehensive techniques to create hollow, solid and near-net shaped forgings.
The Forge itself includes two open die forging presses (4,500 tonne and 10,000 tonnes respectively) which are capable of handling ingots up to 300 tonnes. It also houses large gas-fuelled furnaces for re-heating the materials to temperature (usually around 1,250°c) prior to forging and vertical oil and water quenching facilities up to 20 metres deep, allowing hot components to be transferred directly from the forge or heat treatment area, into a quench tank to cool and harden.
As a Quality Controller you will support and guide the production teams in the production of high-quality forgings, or the supply of molten steel or ingots to the manufacturing areas. You will also promote and engage in Continuous improvement which is at the core of Sheffield Forgemaster's strategy.
What you’ll be doing
* Monitoring processes to ensure they adhere to manufacturing procedures, the QMS, and the wider principals of quality management in the production areas.
* Identify and implement Continuous Improvement projects.
* Identify any quality concerns and non-conformances.
* Integration of PFMEA and Lessons Learnt.
* Monitoring steelmaking or forging and ensure it meets technical procedures.
* Be actively involved in the Quality Clinic, investigating and resolving issues raised.
* Develop best practice both for the current operation and for the transition to new capital equipment.
* Failure Investigation
* Assisting with customer Audits
About You
* Previous experience in a similar quality - focused role.
* Familiar with the technical procedures in a production environment.
* Experience in heavy engineering, steelmaking and / or forging is a distinct advantage.
* Ability to identify and understand challenges and constraints of the operation and opportunities for improvement.
* Good understanding and knowledge of Health and Safety in the workplace.
* Good basic IT skills with MS products.
* Experienced in report writing.
* Ability and willingness to be flexible in the days and hours worked to meet business needs.
* High attention to detail to ensure accurate maintenance of the quality registers for non-conformances and quality concerns.
