Hi, we’re Smoove, part of the PEXA Group.
Our vision is to simplify and revolutionise the home moving and ownership experience for everyone. We aim to deliver products and services that remove pain, frustration, uncertainty, friction, and stress from the current process.
We are a leading provider of technology in the property sector. Founded in 2003, our primary product is a conveyancer two-sided marketplace, connecting consumers with quality conveyancers at competitive prices through our user-friendly tech platform. We are expanding our ecosystem so consumers can access our services via their Estate Agent or Mortgage Broker, making the home buying or selling process easier, quicker, safer, and more transparent.
Why join Smoove?
We pride ourselves on attracting, developing, and retaining a diverse team across various roles and specializations, all working together to achieve outstanding results. Our transparent approach and open-door policy make Smoove a great place to work. As our business grows, we seek ambitious, talented individuals to join us.
We are seeking a Data Engineer capable of maintaining and enhancing our current data solutions and advancing them further. We have developed an initial Data Lake and Lakehouse (Azure Data Lake, ADF, Databricks, Airflow, DBT) to support Business Intelligence and Data Analytics (Superset, RStudio Connect). Our Data Lake is fully metadata-driven, cost-efficient, well-documented, and reproducible.
We require our single source of truth to be reliable and of high quality for internal and external reporting and insights. This is just the beginning—we plan to implement best practices for data sharing and insights delivery to our partners in a scalable and maintainable way. With big data initiatives and new products on the horizon, we need you to think innovatively and design fast, scalable, resilient customer-facing solutions that enhance user experience through insights and interactions.
Our source data resides in various systems, including SQL servers, Google Analytics, and Salesforce. If you have experience setting up data pipelines and in-depth knowledge of Azure/Databricks, are comfortable taking a leadership role, and want to influence our evolving data landscape, this role is for you. We operate in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing enabling Analytics and Data Science with access to quality data and the right tools. We aim to lead in the Proptech Data space, and your solutions will drive our growth and innovation.
Main responsibilities:
* Own the centralization of diverse data sources into our Lakehouse (Databricks on Azure Data Lake) and its architecture.
* Ensure data reliability and quality in the Data Lake, including anomaly detection, data quality checks, reconciliations, access and permission management, PII handling, and backup/restoration plans.
* Set up and manage platform technologies to support Analytics and Data Science enablement.
* Lead innovative data solutions to meet current and future requirements.
Skills / Experience required:
* (Required) 3+ years of relevant Data Engineering experience, preferably with Databricks/Azure or Snowflake/Redshift/BigQuery.
* (Required) Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform).
* (Required) Proficiency in Python for scheduling (e.g., Airflow) and data manipulation (PySpark).
* (Required) Experience deploying web apps using Kubernetes, preferably with ArgoCD & Helm.
* (Preferred) Experience with Analytics and Data Science enablement tools (dbt, DS deployments).
* (Preferred) Experience with Master Data Management (MDM), Data Cataloguing, and Lineage optimization.
* A preference for simplicity and transparency over complexity.
* Focus on best practices and detail-oriented work to enable scalability.
* Strong communication skills and ability to present data effectively.
