An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, well-organised, motivated and committed Medical Secretary to join our friendly team in the Breast Unit at St Albans City Hospital.
Important information - this role does not qualify for a Certificate of Sponsorship (Work Permit).
The successful candidate will work as part of a dedicated team and will need experience in audio typing, a previous medical secretary role, excellent communication, organisational and advanced IT skills to provide an efficient secretarial service to a team of consultant surgeons, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and registrars. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate possessing the essential qualification outlined in the attached person specification. With a new hospital planned for Watford and work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital, this is an exciting time to join us. Responsibilities
* The main duty/responsibility of this post is to provide administrative, clerical and secretarial support to one or more of the Breast Unit Consultants, liaising on a day-to-day basis and prioritising own workload.
* Typing of clinic letters, using various IT systems, discharge summaries and admin letters from tapes or dictation or written copy as required.
* To deal sympathetically and confidentially, via telephone enquiries or face to face, with patients, GPs, medical staff, nursing staff and Hospital departments. Queries can occasionally be distressing/emotional.
* To arrange for cancellation of Consultant’s clinics for annual leave, study leave, etc. via the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record system (EPR) (Cerner). To support with rescheduling of appointments with patients via EPR, telephone or letter.
* To assist other secretaries in the Department with workload when required and help provide cover during leave.
