Job Description

A critical position in Smiths Detection’s Global Training and Technical Documentation department. The role holder will collaborate with a breadth of global stakeholders, internally and externally, and will have regular contact with other departments across Smiths Detection globally. The role holder will need to manage and deliver both internal and external Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and have strong analytic and customer relationship skills. This role supports the Training Analysis, Design and Technical Documentation pillar of the Global Training and Documentation department. The key objective is to conduct TNA in a manner that is both flexible and robust. The role holder will demonstrate consultancy and domain/capability experience and will be able to operate across a complex environment both culturally and technically. The role holder implements and delivers standard training methodologies (such as the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) or ADDIE models) and project management frameworks, plus providing the customer with additional value through training analysis to inform their decision making.


Duties and Responsibilities

* Conducts complex TNAs both internally and externally and for a range of sectors, including all related stakeholder management, communication and data gathering.
* Identify learning needs of internal employee groups and create and deploy learning pathways to fulfil these needs through role analysis.
* Manage induction training pathways for internal target audiences, continually refreshing training content within pathways as learning content evolves.
* Deliver training on the conduct of TNA to wider Training and Technical Documentation team members.
* Write TNA reports for a range of internal and external customers and present findings with confidence and expertise.
* Observe and identify wider organisational problems that may lead to training issues and communicate these in an accessible and concise manner.
* Conduct stakeholder interviews at all levels and ask effective questions to gather qualitative information on training needs and other organisational factors impacting success.
* Develop questionnaires to collect reliable and valid quantitative data.
* Appreciate the impact that cultural differences may have within a global organisation when recommending training options to fill emerging training gaps.
* Create and deploy communication plans to share TNAs outputs across the global organisation, factoring in cultural nuances where appropriate.
* Collaborate with relevant departments to tailor training outputs to customer requirements.
* Coordinate with the Smiths Detection Training Delivery and Online Training teams to manage outputs from the TNA that require training design activity.
* Act as liaison between the Global Training and Technical Documentation Department and other departments on all TNA topics.
* Independently familiarise oneself with changing technologies and the future of TNA and training delivery, online and in-classroom.
* Ensure Smiths Detection remains an innovative and impactful training department by staying up to date with changes to training options for all Smiths Detection equipment.
* Lead TNA project meetings within the department and with other internal and external stakeholders.
* Establish and maintain exceptional relationships with Service, Sales, Bid Teams, Marketing, Product Managers, Product Specialists, regional Service Managers and regional Service Leads to support business needs and promote the TNA offering.
* Provide expert consultancy to others in the conduct of TNA and related people challenges that can manifest as technical issues.
* Provide training management consultancy services to clients, within the scope of market areas and domains, with support from training colleagues, project managers and Senior Management teams.
* Represent Smiths Detection professionally, upholding all values and leadership behaviours.
* Fulfils administrative requirements, ensuring internal control systems are maintained.
* Demonstrate flexibility to travel to customer sites to perform duties and maintain relationships with customers locally and internationally.
* Review and provide Quality Assurance on TNA outputs of other Training Analysts.
* Participate in tender processing, including writing bids and scoping customer requirements from tender documentation.


The Individual

Education: A formal qualification in the conduct of TNA is desirable but not essential. A higher-level qualification in Training Management, Training Analysis or related HR function. Willing to work towards additional professional development targets.

Knowledge/Skills: You have exceptional standards of written English. You demonstrate significant knowledge of at least one Training Analysis framework (such as ADDIE, SAM or other). You demonstrate knowledge of JSP 822 including some experience of delivering the component parts of DSAT. You have experience in producing and/or assuring comprehensive TNA reports. You have experience working in a project environment in target markets, with intellectual flexibility to work in new sectors within Smiths Detection Global markets. You have experience working with internal learning teams to identify internal learning pathways through role analysis. You are proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). You can handle stressful situations and adapt to changing priorities. You can adapt TNA frameworks innovatively to meet customer needs.

General Competencies: The ability to persistently pursue and achieve effective results, manage performance, make effective decisions in a global market, understand the commercial environment, engage and work with others, build a network of relationships, support change and continuous improvement, and work independently with minimal supervision due to the remote nature of the TNA team.

Project Coordination Duties and Responsibilities: The ability to lead the performance of people on TNA projects globally and complete assurance activity on TNA outputs, plan and manage resource requirements for TNA and Training Design activity.
