Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is a 400-bed public hospital providing acute care services and serving as the major referral centre for North and North West regions of Tasmania. It is a teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania and is accredited with the RACP for advanced training in several specialties, including General Medicine. The LGH offers both years of core training in General and Acute Care Medicine and additional non-core training.
During your Advanced Physician Training at LGH, you will be exposed to a broad range of inpatient and outpatient work, supported by opportunities to rotate through specialties such as Perioperative Medicine, Endocrinology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Stroke, Cardiology, Renal, Respiratory, and Rehabilitation. You will also have opportunities to assist with organizing the FRACP clinical examination. Acute terms are available in Cardiology, Stroke, and the Acute Medical Unit.
Our trainees are encouraged to participate actively in teaching roles, including opportunities for honorary titles with the University of Tasmania and involvement in teaching programs for Basic Physician Trainees. Advanced Trainees in General and Acute Care Medicine benefit from a dedicated education program focused on professional skills essential for a General Physician. There are ample opportunities for research and supervision of training research projects, supported by the Clifford Craig Foundation, which offers research grants to successful applicants, including trainees.
Launceston is conveniently located just an hour's flight from Melbourne and offers easy access to Tasmania's natural attractions.
