Overview
The school nursing service is looking to recruit a School Health Assistant to work term time only in the Wycombe team covering schools in these surrounding areas. The Wycombe team are based at Abbey Place. You may be required to travel to other sites based on service needs. You will help deliver a high quality service for school age children and their families under the supervision of the Specialist Community Public Health Nurses within School Nursing. You may also be required to support the BHT Schools Immunisation Team at times and will be given full training.
Experience of working in the community and/or with children is desirable. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Responsibilities
* Weighing and measuring children in Reception and Year 6 to deliver the National Childhood Measurement Programme in schools.
* Deliver the vision screening programme for 4- to 5-year-olds and occasional hearing tests.
* Contribute to local and national targets for school health screening and communicate findings to parents where excellent communication skills are essential.
* Potentially deliver health education in schools to whole classes or small groups.
* Maintain good IT and data recording practices to support screening programmes using online tools.
* Support the BHT Schools Immunisation service during the delivery of nasal flu immunisations in schools as required.
* Undertake safeguarding responsibilities with guidance, professional support, and regular clinical supervision.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Good IT skills to ensure accurate data collection and record keeping.
* Willingness to undertake internal training and gain understanding of safeguarding requirements.
* Ability to work in the community or school settings and communicate effectively with children, families and colleagues.
