Job Description
The Commercial Manager is responsible for driving the commercial operations of the business, supporting the sale of technical, engineering led products through effective pricing, quoting, bids, tenders, and order processing.
The role has direct leadership responsibility for the Sales Coordinator team supporting 3 distinct business units ensuring a consistent, high-quality commercial service across the organisation.
This role plays a key part in creating a unified, high-performing commercial function, working closely with Sales, Technical, Operations, and Finance to deliver commercially sound, technically compliant and customer-focused outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Commercial & Pricing Management
* Implement and maintain pricing structures for technical products and solutions, ensuring competitiveness and profitability.
* Review and approve pricing, discounts, and commercial terms in line with delegated authority
* Analyse costs, margins, and commercial risks associated with standard and bespoke technical solutions
* Provide commercial guidance to sales teams on complex or non-standard opportunities
- Quoting, Bids & Tenders
* Oversee the preparation, review, and submission of accurate and timely technically focused quotations
* Lead the commercial aspects of bids and tenders, ensuring alignment with technical specifications, customer requirements, and internal governance
* Review tender documentation, identify commercial risks, and support contract negotiations where required
* Coordinate cross-functional inputs to ensure high-quality, compliant submissions
- Order Processing & Contract Management
* Ensure efficient, accurate, and compliant processing of customer orders from acceptance through to fulfilment
* Maintain strong controls over order entry, amendments, and contract documentation
* Resolve complex pricing, order, or contractual issues in collaboration with sales, engineering, and operations teams
* Ensure orders align with agreed commercial and technical terms
- Sales Coordinator Team Leadership & Culture
* Lead, inspire, and develop Sales Coordinators across three specific business units.
* Create a strong sense of unity and shared purpose, ensuring the team operates as one cohesive, high-performing function
* Provide clear direction, coaching, and ongoing development to motivate and engage the team
* Foster a positive, inclusive culture that encourages collaboration, ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
* Conduct regular one-to-ones, performance reviews, and team meetings to support engagement, performance, and professional growth
* Recognise and celebrate individual and team achievements
- Collaboration, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
* Act as a key commercial partner to Sales, Technical, Operations, Finance, and Procurement
* Provide regular reporting on pricing performance, margins, order intake, and bid activity
* Identify and implement improvements to commercial, quoting, and order management processes
* Ensure compliance with internal policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
* Formal qualification in Business, Engineering, Commercial Management, or a related discipline (advantageous)
* Professional commercial or contract management qualifications (advantageous).
Competencies
* Strong leadership experience with a track record of building engaged, high-performing teams In-depth knowledge of pricing, quoting, bids and tenders, and order processing
* Ability to interpret technical information and translate it into robust commercial proposals
* Strong commercial acumen with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
* Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management capabilities
Experience
* Proven experience in a Commercial Manager, Sales Operations Manager, or similar role within a technical products / engineering environment
* Experience using ERP, CRM, and quotation systems

Salary: Up to £60,000 DOE
