Specialty Doctor in Adult Mental Health, Eating Disorders

The post is based in dualsetting community eating disorder clinic at Imperial Avenue, Stockton on Teesand inpatient setting on Birch ward, which is a Specialist Eating DisorderUnit. It is a 15 bedded unit which accepts admissions from across the NorthEast and Cumbria. The unit provides a specialist multidisciplinary treatmentprogramme for adults with severe eating disorders, including complex patientswith psychiatric and physical comorbidity. The specialist multi-disciplinaryteam is led by a Consultant Psychiatrist and includes a Consultant ClinicalPsychologist, Nurse Consultant, Consultant Physician, Clinical psychologists,Specialist Dietitian, Occupational Therapist, Registered Mental Health Nursesand Registered General Nurses and a trust doctor. The ward works closely withthe day hospital and community team based in Stockton. The ward also works withother specialist ED services across the region to deliver a joined up pathwayof care for patients with severe eating disorders.
Main duties of the job
Towork as part of the ward multidisciplinary team attending the daily wardreport out.
Toensure robust assessments of new patients including the completion of fullpsychiatric histories, review of previous notes, mental state examinations andphysical examinations where appropriate.
Toreview patients and treatment plans as appropriate.
Toparticipate in formulation meetings.
Tomaintain accurate and clear records using the CITO system.
Tocommunicate with staff, patients and their carers in a timely and effectivemanner.
Toliaise with other professional staff and agencies including the completion ofdischarge summaries.
Toensure the practice of safe medicines management.
Towork within framework of CPA.

Person Specification
Teaching & Training
* Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
* Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
* Participated in continuous professional development.
* Evidence of annual appraisal and commitment to appraisal and revalidation.
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* At least 4 years postgraduate experience, including at least 2 years in a core psychiatry training programme in UK or abroad
* Approved under S12 of MHA OR able to achieve within 6 months of appointment.
* MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
Clinical Knowledge & Skills
* Good knowledge of psychiatry.
* Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
* Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
Research, Audit & Quality Improvement
* Has actively participated in clinical audit.
* Shows commitment to quality through knowledge of quality improvement and lean thinking methodology.
* Participated in research and/or service improvement.
