About the role
Northamptonshire Youth Justice Service (YJS) is offering an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated Court Team as a Youth Offending Team worker – Court Officer.
As a Court Officer you will play a key role in supporting children and young people through the youth justice process. You will undertake complex assessments, design and deliver effective interventions, and represent the service in formal court environments. Your work will contribute directly to reducing offending, protecting potential victims, and safeguarding the welfare of young people across Northamptonshire.
This is a 12‑month fixed‑term maternity cover position ending November 2026.
Responsibilities
* Conduct complex assessments of young people in the youth justice system.
* Design and deliver effective interventions tailored to individual needs.
* Represent the service in formal court environments, presenting information confidently.
* Collaborate with other agencies and partner organisations to support young people.
* Support young people and their families throughout the justice process.
Qualifications
* Professional qualification such as Social Worker, Probation Officer, or a relevant degree, with evidence of experience in a field similar to Youth Justice.
* Experience in youth justice or related work with children and families (experience within a Youth Offending Service is an advantage).
* Strong communication skills and confidence in presenting information in formal settings, including courts.
* Ability to build trust and engagement quickly, even in challenging circumstances.
* Persistence, empathy, and determination when working with young people who may live chaotic or complex lives.
* A solution‑focused, professional approach to working with children, families, and partner agencies.
