Job Description
3 month contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• Interim Environmental Protection Team Leader required for North Northamptonshire Council to provide leadership across Environmental Protection services.
• Responsible for managing a team and delivering statutory functions including noise, contaminated land, air quality, and light pollution.
• The role requires an experienced professional who can hit the ground running, lead enforcement activity, and respond to planning consultations.
• Ensures compliance with environmental legislation while maintaining high service standards and stakeholder engagement.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Lead and manage the Environmental Protection team, including conducting 1-1s and performance management.
• Respond to planning consultations relating to noise, contaminated land, air quality, and light pollution.
• Deliver a wide range of enforcement activities, including serving statutory notices and prosecutions.
• Provide expert advice on environmental protection legislation and case law.
• Manage complex environmental complaints from members of the public.
• Work collaboratively with internal departments and external stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.
• Support service delivery improvements and maintain high-quality standards.
• Participate in out-of-hours work where required.

Skills/Experience:
• Extensive experience in Environmental Protection (noise, air quality, contaminated land, light).
• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and relevant case law.
• Proven experience in enforcement, including notices and prosecutions.
• Experience managing teams and leading staff (including 1-1s).
• Experience responding to planning consultations.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and public-facing experience.
• Ability to work independently and hit the ground running in an interim role.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance.

Additional Information:
• Bi-Weekly Payments.
• Contract: Interim (Inside IR35).
• Rate: £47 per hour (Umbrella).
• Duration: 3 months (06/04/2026 – 06/07/2026).
• Location: North Northamptonshire (Hybrid).
• Hours: 37 per week.


Requirements
