Job Title: Chef Location: Pencaitland, Tranent (EH34), EH34 5DJ Reports To: Home Manager Job Summary: We are looking for an experienced and passionate Chef to join our care home team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious, well-balanced, and appetising meals for our residents, many of whom have specific dietary needs. You will play a key role in promoting residents health and well-being through food, ensuring mealtimes are a positive and enjoyable experience. Key Responsibilities: Plan, prepare, and cook meals according to residents dietary requirements, preferences, and nutritional needs Work closely with the care team to ensure individual dietary plans are followed, including soft diets, diabetic meals, and allergy-aware menus Maintain high standards of hygiene and food safety in accordance with health and safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, COSHH) Monitor stock levels, place food orders, and manage kitchen budgets responsibly Ensure the kitchen is clean, tidy, and compliant with food safety standards at all times Support themed days and special occasions with appropriate menu planning Supervise and support kitchen assistants and ensure smooth running of meal services Engage with residents for feedback and meal preferences to continuously improve food services Requirements: Previous experience working as a Chef, ideally within a care home or healthcare environment Knowledge of nutritional needs for older adults and experience catering for special dietary requirements Food Hygiene Level 2 or 3 Certificate (required) Strong understanding of food safety and cleanliness standards Ability to work in a team and under pressure Good communication and organisational skills Passionate about delivering high-quality meals that promote dignity and wellbeing
