Offer description

Are you passionate about delivering high-quality patient care and making a real difference every day? We're looking for a full-time, compassionate, committed, and enthusiastic Health Care Support Worker to join the team on Ward 36, our busy and friendly 16-bed general surgical ward at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

About Ward 36:

Ward 36 cares for a wide range of elective and emergency surgical patients, including those undergoing procedures in colorectal, upper GI, breast, and general surgery. We support patients through the pre- and post-operative journey, managing both short and longer stays. This provides excellent opportunities to develop a solid foundation in surgical care within a supportive, team-focused environment.

What We're Looking For:

We are seeking an individual who embodies the Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust values:

Caring and compassionate, putting patients at the heart of everything you do.

Accountable, delivering care safely, reliably, and with pride.

Respectful, treating colleagues, patients, and families with dignity and understanding.

Encouraging, supporting others to achieve their best, while growing and developing your own skills.

Together, we work collaboratively to provide outstanding care every time.

Whether you're an experienced support worker or new to healthcare, if you share our values and are ready to contribute to a team committed to high-quality care, we'd love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

As a Health Care Support Worker on Ward 36, your role will be to deliver hands-on, personal care to our surgical patients, support their dignity and independence, and contribute to their recovery journey. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure patient needs are met compassionately and effectively. From helping patients with hygiene and mobility to observing and reporting changes in their condition, your care and attention will make a real difference.

On Ward 36, you'll be part of a warm, welcoming team that values kindness, support, and professional growth. We pride ourselves on strong leadership, clear communication, and developing our staff to their full potential. You’ll gain invaluable experience in surgical nursing, be supported through structured training, and be part of a Trust that truly lives its values. We care for each other, and we care about doing things the right way together.

What We Offer:

Full training and ongoing development, including clinical skills and care certificates.

A supportive team environment that values your wellbeing and input.

Join us in delivering outstanding surgical care in a Trust that lives its values and puts patients and staff first. Apply via NHS Jobs or contact us for an informal chat or ward visit — we'd be happy to show you around.
