The Opportunity

Interface Recruitment is hiring two Network Installation Engineers as Apprentices in the UK on behalf of a long-established network technology services business delivering large-scale structured cabling and enterprise network infrastructure projects. They also support modern IP CCTV and access control installations, so there’s genuine opportunity to broaden your skills over time.

This is a hands-on apprenticeship for someone who wants a practical career in technology engineering: working on real customer sites, learning from experienced engineers, and building skills that are in demand across data centres, offices, retail, industrial sites and public-sector environments.

No previous experience is required—attitude, reliability and a willingness to learn matter most.

What you’ll learn (and what you’ll be doing)

You’ll work alongside qualified engineers and gradually take on more responsibility as your skills develop.

Key responsibilities (training supported)

*

Install and terminate structured cabling such as Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6a to outlets and patch panels.

*

Learn safe installation methods including containment: trunking, tray, and conduit.

*

Use professional tools for testing and certification, including Fluke testing (training provided).

*

Support fibre work: understanding single-mode/multimode, basic handling, patching and (over time) splicing exposure.

*

Assist with basic site set-up: labelling, tidying, documenting work completed and following installation standards.

*

Work on customer sites as part of a team, maintaining a professional approach and good communication.

*

Follow health & safety practices: PPE use, safe working at height awareness, and risk assessments (all trained).

Technology environment

This apprenticeship is a great foundation for a career in network infrastructure engineering.

You’ll get exposure to

*

Structured cabling: Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, patch panels, keystone modules, outlets

*

Testing & certification: Fluke testers, continuity testing, results recording, QA sign-off

*

Fibre optics: SM/MM concepts, fibre patching, cleaning standards, light loss basics (with progression to splicing)

*

Containment: tray, trunking, conduit, fixings, best-practice routing and cable management

*

Network basics: simple connectivity checks, IP addressing awareness, PoE concepts (useful when working around networked devices)

*

Optional progression routes: IP CCTV, access control, door entry, Wi-Fi access points, rack/comm cabinet work

What we’re looking for (no experience required)

Essential

*

A genuine interest in a hands-on engineering career (cabling, fibre, networks, tech installation)

*

Willingness to learn, take feedback, and work safely to high standards

*

Reliable, punctual and comfortable working on customer sites

*

Good communication and a positive, team-first attitude

*

Full UK driving licence is highly beneficial for site-based work

Useful (but not required)

*

Any practical background (college course, DIY, construction/engineering interest, cadets, hobby projects)

*

Basic IT interest (PC building, home networking, troubleshooting)

What success looks like in the first 6–12 months

*

You’ll complete key training modules and earn foundational site certifications (via the apprenticeship route).

*

You’ll become confident with safe working practices and quality installation standards.

*

You’ll be able to terminate and test copper cabling independently under supervision.

*

You’ll build the skills to progress into fibre work, testing/certification, and more complex installs.
