Ainslie ward at Torbay Hospital is recruiting for a full time Healthcare Support Worker to join the fast paced 26 bedded Trauma and Orthopaedic ward.
As a Healthcare Support Worker on Ainslie ward you'll help patients during their stay by ensuring they receive quality care and support.
Work will be varied and will involve collaboration with Registered Nurses and Practitioners on the ward.
Development will be supported through in house training, external courses, regular supervision and appraisals.

Working Pattern
They will work a combination of Long Days and Nights on an 11.5 shift, including weekends and bank holidays.
Main duties of the job
* Observing, monitoring and recording patients’ conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight.
* Communicating with patients, relatives and carers, assisting with clinical duties.
* Personal care including infection prevention and control, food, personal hygiene and overall reassurance, comfort and safety.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels, both within and outside the department.
* Participate in ward/unit meetings and encourage effective communication between other staff.
* Follow the direction of the Registered Nurses /Senior Clinical Staff in the delivery of planned care.
Job responsibilities
* Applicants should have proven experience in the care sector.
* All new starters will receive specialist training and support to complete the care certificate.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
* Understand the need for strict confidentiality.
* Previous experience in a care environment or demonstrable caring nature/life experience.
* Working knowledge of complex care needs, including Safeguarding Children & Adults, Domestic Abuse and Mental Health.
Qualifications and Training
* GCSE – maths and English (grade C/5 or above) or Functional Skills level 2 in both subjects as a minimum requirement.
* Care certificate.
* English & Mathematics at GCSE grade A-C (9-4) or level 2 functional skills.
Specific Skills
* Basic computer/keyboard skills.
* Fine motor skills – e.g. venepuncture, phlebotomy and other clinical tasks.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to prioritise and organise work.
* Ability to work under instruction, under pressure and as part of a team.
* Record keeping competency in handwritten and electronic records.
* Demonstrate empathy, sensitivity and adapt communication style to circumstances.
