Summary


The role is pivotal in managing referrals related to allegations against staff or volunteers within the Local Authority, focusing on safeguarding children and young people. The position involves providing expert advice and consultation to various agencies, ensuring high standards of practice in child protection. The post holder is responsible for quality assurance, monitoring service effectiveness, and leading initiatives to enhance childcare practices. This role is crucial in safeguarding children, managing risks, and ensuring the effective engagement of professionals in child welfare.



Responsibilities


* Allocate tasks to social workers and key professionals, ensuring implementation of decisions from ASV meetings.
* Ensure timely follow-up on actions agreed upon in chaired meetings.
* Chair and ensure the effectiveness of single and multi-agency meetings.
* Represent Children's Safeguarding & Social Care at multi-agency meetings.
* Conduct high-level risk assessments and ensure proportionate plans are in place.
* Contribute effectively to multi-agency meetings, including Police/Probation MAPPA panels.
* Provide consultation, advice, and challenge on safeguarding matters.
* Fulfil statutory duties related to allegations against staff or volunteers.
* Promote service standards for child-centered practice and continuous improvement.
* Contribute to strategy, policy, and training development for professionals.
* Lead and contribute to practice audits and case reviews.
* Promote evidence-based practice and stay updated with relevant legislation and guidance.
* Develop areas of specialisation in safeguarding and provide professional leadership.
* Ensure children and young people are aware of participation opportunities.
* Ensure the voices of children and parents are heard and contribute to service development.
* Maintain regular contact with agencies and ensure safeguarding policies are in place.
* Manage complex meetings involving sensitive issues and make critical decisions.
* Consider the unique heritage and background of children in planning and reviewing.
* Utilize information technology for workload management and record-keeping.
* Undertake additional duties as required, including deputising for the Quality Improvement Service Leader.
* Adhere to health and safety regulations, Data Protection/GDPR, and Council policies.
* Perform duties in line with Council's staff values, focusing on improving residents' lives.



Requirements



* Experience in dealing with allegations against staff or volunteers.
* Strong understanding of safeguarding children and inter-agency responsibilities.
* Proven ability in quality assurance and service improvement.
* Experience in providing consultation and support to social workers and external agencies.
* Ability to lead projects and deliver training for childcare practice improvement.
* Competence in managing complex meetings and making critical decisions.
* Knowledge of legislation, regulations, and policies related to child welfare.
* Strong communication and leadership skills.
* Eligibility for a DBS enhanced check.



Requirements
Requirements: Registration in Wales Adult social work experience Readiness to handle cases immediately Must be able to answer basic questions at interview for this post, including knowledge of the relevant legislation.
