An exciting opportunity has arisen to join and further expand our dynamic and well-respected Acute Medicine team at Barnsley Hospital.
The successful applicant(s) will join a team of ten consultants. Each team member demonstrates clinical excellence and brings additional skills, including research, teaching, education, and management. Collaboration is highly valued within the team.
Main duties of the job
This is a substantive post supporting service expansion to meet activity and service specifications, including a move towards a 12-hour / 7-day AIM cover model. The role includes daytime work on the AMU, Short Stay Unit (SSU), and Medical SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care).

The current staffing includes 10 Consultants, 2 SAS doctors, 1 ST4-7, a mix of CT3-6, CT1/GP VTS/F2 or F1 doctors, and 6 full-time Physician Associates.
The hospital is an associate teaching hospital of the University of Sheffield and actively involves in undergraduate medical education. Candidates must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of eligibility for entry.

Person Specification
Skills and Abilities (Essential)
* Willingness and ability to fulfill key job elements including shift patterns.
* Clinical skills in acute medicine and general internal medicine.
* Ability to handle the demands of a DGH-based Consultant role.
* Leadership and service development skills.
* Ability to develop effective working relationships across all staff levels.
* Proven teamwork within a multidisciplinary setting.
Experience (Essential)
* Management of a broad Acute Medicine caseload.
Desirable
* Current ALS or equivalent certification.
* Experience in a relevant specialist interest.

* MRCP or equivalent.
* Full GMC registration with proven skills and recent experience in acute medicine, or eligibility for specialist registration within 12 months, including GMC CESR applications.
