Role summary:
The Entertainment Reporter will be an ambitious individual, eager to join the team in our fast-paced London newsroom. Joining as maternity cover, this is a unique opportunity to develop your career and skills at one of Britain’s most exciting and talked-about media brands. The Entertainment Reporter will be well versed in Britain’s most loved TV shows, have a sound knowledge of the latest celebrity gossip, and be passionate about finding exclusive stories. Most importantly, they will be a team player. Applicants must be flexible and willing to work across a seven-day rota on a 7am-3pm or 3pm-11pm shift pattern. A strong knowledge of media law is required.
Key responsibilities and main tasks:
* Reporting and Writing:
o Conduct research, interviews, and investigations to gather information for entertainment stories and features.
o Write clear, concise, and engaging articles on a variety of topics, adhering to journalistic standards, deadlines and the GB News Editorial Charter.
o Cover breaking news events, the latest TV show updates, and the biggest celebrity viral moments.
* Editing and Proofreading:
o Assist the Entertainment Editor in reviewing and editing articles for accuracy, clarity, and style.
o Proofread content to identify errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling before publication.
o Learn how to craft compelling headlines, captions, and summaries to enhance reader engagement.
* Digital Journalism:
o Contribute to the production of digital content – including video - for the company's website, mobile app, and social media platforms.
o Be competent in content management systems (CMS), search engine optimisation (SEO), social media, and analytics to maximise online reach and engagement.
o Utilising Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to help boost the depth and breadth of GB News’s journalism.
o Monitor audience feedback and trends to identify opportunities for optimising digital content and user experience.
* Professional Development:
o Receive mentorship and guidance from experienced journalists and editors to support career development.
o Take on additional responsibilities and projects as assigned to broaden skill set and professional experience.
* Be an ambassador for GB News
