We are seeking to appoint a Cover Yard Controller to support the safe and efficient daily operation of the garage. This is a front-line supervisory role with responsibility for health and safety within the yard, the allocation and movement of vehicles, and ensuring a punctual and professional run-out each day. The Cover Yard Controller will also liaise closely with Engineering, attend daily operational meetings, and line manage Bidvest yard staff.
Responsibilities
* Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements within the yard at all times.
* Allocate vehicles to duties and manage bus movements, including shunting and unplugging of EV buses.
* Oversee and line manage Bidvest yard staff, ensuring duties are carried out safely and effectively.
* Liaise with the Engineering department regarding vehicle availability and maintenance requirements.
* Ensure a smooth and punctual vehicle run-out, with all departures safe and on time.
* Attend daily 04:00am operational meetings and contribute to effective coordination across departments.
* Support communication between Operations and Engineering teams to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
Essential
Qualifications
* Strong awareness of health and safety practices.
* Ability to lead and manage a small team.
* Proven organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
* Flexibility to cover a range of shifts (early, middle, and late duties).
* Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Desirable
* Previous experience in a supervisory or operational role within transport or logistics.
* Knowledge of bus operations and vehicle allocation.
Additional Requirements
* A satisfactory attendance record in line with company policy, with no ongoing issues under formal attendance procedures.
* No current live disciplinary action relating to blameworthy accidents, incidents, or attendance.
* A consistent record of safe driving and professional conduct.
Training and Development
* Successful candidates will undertake a structured training and development plan.
* Training will include vehicle familiarisation and system processes.
